Infinity & Ovation Yacht Wedding in Detroit | Diem & David

Some weddings unfold in ballrooms.
Some in churches.
Some beneath chandeliers.

Diem and David chose the water.

Their wedding day began early at the MGM Grand Detroit, long before the city had fully settled into the morning. There’s something different about downtown Detroit at 7:30am. The streets are quieter. The light feels softer. It was the kind of calm that lets anticipation settle in slowly.

Inside the suite, Diem was surrounded by her bridesmaids and her mom. The room held that mix of excitement and tenderness that always lingers while a bride gets ready. Shoes lined up neatly. Her dress hanging in the window light. Makeup brushes moving quickly across countertops.

But the moments that mattered most were the quiet ones.

Her reading a note from David.
Her expression shifting as she opened his gift.
Her bridesmaids seeing her fully dressed for the first time.
That pause when she stood in front of the mirror, taking it all in.

The first look with her mom was emotional in the most understated way. It wasn’t loud. It was steady. A long embrace that said everything.

Just down the hall, David was getting ready with his groomsmen. Ties being straightened. Jackets adjusted. Laughter bouncing between them. He read her note with the same quiet intensity. You could feel that this wasn’t just a celebration. It was a moment he had been waiting for.

Their first look together felt grounded and personal. No aisle. No audience. Just the two of them, seeing each other fully before stepping into the rest of the day.

Afterward, we made our way to the Detroit Institute of Arts.

The DIA has a way of making portraits feel timeless. The architecture adds structure without overpowering the couple. Diem and David moved effortlessly through the space, balancing elegance with ease. Their bridal party brought energy, but there was always a calm center around the two of them.

By midday, it was time to board the Ovation Yacht.

Instead of a traditional ceremony space, their reception unfolded on the water. As the yacht pulled away, Detroit’s skyline became the backdrop. The movement of the river added something you can’t replicate indoors. Light reflected off the surface. The breeze softened the heat of August.

It felt celebratory from the very beginning.

The interior details were beautifully arranged before guests arrived. Emerald City Florals and Linens created an elevated atmosphere with carefully styled centerpieces. The cake from Morning Glory Coffee & Pastries waited on its table. Champagne glasses caught the light. Every detail had its place.

As guests stepped aboard, the energy shifted from anticipation to full celebration.

Toasts from Anna, Angel, Vicky, Wilson, and Leon filled the deck with laughter and emotion. Close friends leaned in as stories were shared. Parents watched with pride. There is something about being surrounded by water that makes words feel heavier, more meaningful.

When Diem and David shared their first dance, Detroit stretched out behind them. It wasn’t confined by walls. It felt expansive. Open.

The rest of the afternoon unfolded naturally. Dancing spilled across the deck. David shared a dance with his mother. The bouquet was tossed with cheers echoing into the breeze. Guests lingered longer than usual, not wanting the afternoon to end.

By the time they stepped off the yacht, it felt like they had created their own floating world for a few hours. A wedding without rigid structure. No traditional ceremony. Just intention, portraits, family, and celebration carried along the river.

Diem later shared that working together felt effortless and precise, that she felt cared for and supported through the entire process. That matters more than timelines or logistics. A wedding day moves quickly. The experience of it should feel steady.

A Detroit wedding that moved. A skyline that shifted. A reception that didn’t feel contained.

And for Diem and David, it was exactly right.
