Ann Arbor Botanical Gardens Wedding: Taylor & Rishi’s Story
Some moments in life are meant to be captured in their purest, unguarded form. For Taylor and Rishi, that moment arrived amid the lush greenery of the Ann Arbor Matthaei Botanical Gardens, a place that already held special meaning for them—just minutes from their home and a favorite spot for dates that quietly wove their story together.
The plan was simple, yet full of suspense: Rishi would propose, and I would hide, ready to document the magic as it unfolded. As they strolled through the winding paths and sun-dappled groves, you could almost feel the anticipation in the air. Rishi’s nerves were tangible, a mix of excitement and hope. Then, in a perfect, fleeting moment, he asked the question, and Taylor said yes. Tears, laughter, and the warmth of genuine joy filled the space—an intimate scene as beautiful as the gardens themselves.
A short while later, they reached out to me again. Their love story wasn’t finished yet—they wanted their wedding in the same place that had witnessed the beginning of this new chapter. And on September 28th, exactly one year after the proposal, we returned to the Botanical Gardens, to roughly the same spot where Rishi had knelt on one knee, to capture another milestone in their journey together.
The day unfolded seamlessly. A short drive brought them back to the Gardens around 4 PM, where we began with portraits among the greenery, the golden afternoon light highlighting their smiles and the delicate blooms around them. At 5:15, their ceremony commenced, intimate and heartfelt, followed by family photos as laughter and congratulations echoed through the gardens.
Dinner followed at the Dixboro Project, where friends and family celebrated their union in a cozy, elegant setting, the joy of the day spilling into every toast and shared story. By 8 PM, the sweet finale arrived: the cake cutting, a moment of playful celebration that capped a day rooted in love, connection, and the spaces that matter most to Taylor and Rishi.

For Taylor and Rishi, love grew among familiar paths and blossomed into a day that was intimate, joyful, and beautifully their own. Their wedding day began early at the MGM Grand Detroit, long before the city had fully settled into the morning. There’s something different about downtown Detroit at 7:30am. The streets are quieter. The light feels softer. It was the kind of calm that lets anticipation settle in slowly.
Inside the suite, Diem was surrounded by her bridesmaids and her mom. The room held that mix of excitement and tenderness that always lingers while a bride gets ready. Shoes lined up neatly. Her dress hanging in the window light. Makeup brushes moving quickly across countertops.
